Author's Note

This book came about when I wrote two thesis projects for Masters degrees. The information contained in the book came from my experiences as a preschool owner/teacher. I owned the only school that accepted all children regardless of their disability. The children I served ranged in age from 18 months through 12 years.

I was delighted to determine the methods I used were backed up by research-based theories such as Vygotsky and Erickson. The research that I conducted proved that the information provided was useful to both teachers and parents.

The process of turning the thesis projects into a book was amazing. It is one thing to write for college professors and another to write for an unknown person. I had to change my way of thinking from a writer who needed to please one person to a writer who wanted to change the way a teacher taught a child.

My greatest hope is that a teacher will either read this book or hear the information from a presenter and change what she is doing to accommodate any child who comes into her classroom. I believe all children have the right to an education in any class and that it is the teacher's responsibility to make that happen.

The information provided in this book will help all teachers meet the needs of all of the children she finds in her class. This idea of accommodating all children does not come easy. The teacher has to be willing to learn methods and change what she is doing on a regular basis. It can be done and the rewards are limitless.
